LAND USE & THE CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
Land Use & the Causes of Global Warming reviews the global emissions of greenhouse gases from land use sources, highlighting the uncertainties in estimating both the magnitude of the fluxes & the scale of land use change. The authors illustrate how all land use policies are multi-objective but that the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions must be a key element in forestry & agriculture policy on a global basis.

Global Warming   The concern about global warming (also called, "The Greenhouse Effect") is growing. One of the reasons, is that the biggest single cause of global warming is CO 2 , mostly (80-85%) resulting from combustion of fossil fuels - coal, gasoline, diesel fuel & natural gas. Another is that evidence that global warming is indeed occurring is far less convincing than damage to stratospheric O 3 . The average temperature rise over the surface of the earth is "only" 0.5 o C. over the past 100 years. i  Why should global warming take place? i  This scale is called global warming potential (GWP).
i  So, even the zero ODP compounds (...) have the potential for causing damage to our atmosphere. However, their contribution to global warming is a good deal less than the other "greenhouse gases" (CO 2 , methane, nitrous oxide) we are emitting.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING?

i  If we don't make some kind of attempt to slow down the warming process the end result can be detrimental across the world.   The cause of global warming is based on a process called greenhouse effect. i  When these gases are released into the atmosphere they act like a blanket trapping infrared heat in the atmosphere, causing it to heat up. i  The increase of these gases in the last 2 decades have caused detrimental consequences to the atmosphere. The last contributor to global warming is deforestation. When forests are eliminated you destroy an important component that can combat global warming.

WHAT CAUSES GLOBAL WARMING  i  Global warming is caused by a lot of things, eg ?  the burning of coal & the burning of the rain forest & many other stuff. Sense global warming is caused by different things, I'll tell you them one by one. Certain gases in the atmosphere --known as the greenhouse gases tend to trap the sun's heat. Some important greenhouse gases, eg ?  carbon dioxide are building up in the atmosphere. The burning of coal is one thing that causes global warming. If they continue to release the deadly fumes into the atmosphere a hole open in the it. Sometimes global warming is natural.

i  Therefore, the urban "heat island" effect could not be causing much of the observed warming. i  When global temperatures are simulated with a computer model which accounts for most of the additional influences, the result is consistent with the observed warming, & the buildup of greenhouse gases is a dominant factor, particularly in recent decades. i  FACT: When changes in the haze of particles as well as greenhouse gases are taken into account, the models simulate a global temperature trend over the past century which is consistent with the observed warming. i  MYTH: Carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere fairly quickly, so if global warming turns out to be a problem, society can wait until after consequences occur to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. i  But as warming continues, the tendency toward nighttime warming is expected to diminish, in part as the slow heating of the oceans causes a uniform atmospheric warming over time. i  FACT: Computer models of climate have been adjusted to account for the cooling effect of particle haze, which has resulted in lower projections of global average warming by year 2100. i  However, several recent studies indicate that the warming effect of solar variations since pre-industrial times is much smaller than the warming effect of the greenhouse gas buildup. +

The Collapsing Scientific Cornerstones of Global Warming Theory
The Basis Of Global Warming Theory
 *   i  Global warming theory rests on 3 cornerstones: climate models, scientific analyses of past & present climate data & trends, & the assertion that increases in greenhouse gases drive up global temperatures.
i  A U.S. government survey of the global climate model literature conducted predicted even less warming - between 0.5 degrees & 2.0 degrees Celsius by 2100. (...) With every new report the range of warming falls, which implies that the early models on which the most catastrophic claims were based were crude predictors of global climate change. +
i  Global warming alarmists have been unable to explain this mismatch between warming theory & scientific data. i  This finding is at odds with global warming theory & the idea that increased levels of CO 2 force climate temperatures upward, but it does correspond with reality. +
James Hansen, whose 1988 pronouncements started the clamor for action to prevent global warming, wrote in the 1998 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that "the forcings that drive long-term climate change aren't known with accuracy sufficient to define future climate change." +

com 06/24/99: By digging more than 300 feet into the ice of Antarctica & Greenland, researchers say they're certain that the gases that have eaten a hole in the atmosphere's protective layer of ozone were not present in the 19th & early 20th centuries.   The study is proof, the researchers say, that human-produced gases have caused the ozone hole.   (Another type of ozone, smog, is caused by the burning of fossil fuels & other human activities. i  It underscores the human contribution to these gases in the atmosphere & the need for compliance with current international agreements to bring the atmosphere back to pre-ozone hole conditions."

Global warming and Vietnam, Introduction: Global Warming

Global Warming

Global warming is the term used to describe the threat posed by the change in climate caused by pollution of the atmosphere. The problem is sometimes referred to as global climate change or as enhancement of the greenhouse effect. The pollutants which are causing global warming are known as greenhouse gases. its  ? feared that, as a result of global warming, regional weather & climate will alter. Sea level will rise as the oceans warm & expand & glaciers melt. The international community is concerned about global warming &, in June 1992, reached agreement on the Framework Convention on Climate Change. *
  • Taking advantage of opportunities for research, international co-operation & funding presented by global climate change initiatives will strengthen Vietnam's ability to respond to local as well as to global environmental problems.

Global warming causes

Author: burbank school, vicki s maiden What is the cause of global warming?

Response #: 1 of 1 Author: mortis There are many causes, not just one, & we may not know what all the causes are. There are natural causes that we know little about but we know they are there as geological evidence tells us that Earth's climate changes quite a lot - sometimes colder than today & sometimes warmer. Some have suggested changes in the sun's output of radiation, or changes in the amount of dust in the atmosphere (...) as natural causes. For about 100 years there has been concern that the burning of coal & oil in our industrial age might put enough carbon-dioxide & other gasses into the atmosphere to trap reflected sunlight & thus cause the atmosphere to heat upage Various means of controlling industrial (...) air pollution are being discussed by the world's governments. I am encouraged by the expansion of global peace & global trade as evidence that humanity could cope with climate change no matter what the cause.

Global warming could be an ecological Catch-22. More termites, more global warming... STINKY STUDY LINKS TERMITE FLATULENCE WITH GLOBAL WARMING Not many days ago, UK ? 's Natural Environment Research Council announced that scientists, after 5 years of research, have determined that termite flatulence may make up as much as 20% of the methane produced annually on earth. Termites release an estimated 176 billion pounds of "greenhouse gas" per year. i  For decades, they have indicted cattle, sheep & other belching ruminants for their burped contributions to global warming. My question has less to do with the greenhouse effect than with the historical role of termites in the presumably supernatural phenomenon of spontaneous self-incineration.

GLOBAL warming needs to be reassessed to take account of recently discovered natural long-term variation in the world's climate. Statistics that seem to prove the world is undergoing global warming due to human activity fail to take into account that it has undergone much greater swings of temperature. Prof David Bowen said: "I'm not saying warming hasn't taken place - we pulled out of a mini ice-age about 100 years ago - but the question is how much of global warming is due to natural variability & how much is due to people?" Since last Nov,..., many scientists believe global warming needs reassessing. Post-1850 we have had a little warming & a mini-ice age. He added that changes in climate need to be taken into account to develop new models to investigate whether we are in a period of abnormal human-generated warming.

Scientists announced in the July 21, 1999, edition of the journal Nature findings that suggest that global warming can sometimes lead to cold weather or even a worldwide freeze. The cause, however, has been a mystery. The authors of the Nature article write that the centuries long cold spell might have been caused by meltwater from the disappearing glaciers, cooling the North Atlantic. When the Earth began to warm 10,000 years ago, it retreated back toward the poles. Independent research showed that global temperatures dropped significantly within several 100 years of the flood. The Atlantic Gulf Stream normally acts like a conveyor belt to deliver warm tropical water to temperate regions. The authors conclusions demonstrate how global warming can, paradoxically, provoke a global freeze.

The reason it warms up is as the earth is absorbing some of that solar energy.   If we have more energy arriving than leaving, we will have global warming.   If the amount of CO2 in the air goes up, the earth will heat up, which is the start of global warming.   As CO2 absorbs energy emitted from the Earth & prevents it from going back out into space, its  ? called a greenhouse gas. There are several other greenhouse gases, (...). So, CO2 is responsible for about half of our global warming & all the other gases combined are responsible for the other half.

GW Understanding the Forecast--Intro

GLOBAL WARMING: Understanding the Forecast

i  Global Warming: Understanding the Forecast was developed by the Environmental Defense Fund & the American Museum of Natural History. A complete on-line, interactive version of the exhibition is only a click away: visit the "virtual museum," Global Warming: Focus on the Future.

What Is Global Warming, Anyway?

But human activities are causing some greenhouse gases, eg ?  carbon dioxide, to build up in the atmosphere. i  Global warming is not like turning on a heater; we can't just turn it off afterwards if the Earth warms too fast for comfort. i  But we can act now to insure against the risk of disruptive future warming, by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions today.

The greenhouse effect & global warming

There is less consensus about global warming than about the effect of greenhouse gases, but most scientists now agree that Earth's climate has warmed in the past few centuries. i  Even more contentious is whether humans are contributing to global warming or if its  ? just a natural cycle. (...)

THE BIG MAC: A GLOBAL WARMING THREAT?

i  Methane gases are potent when trapping infrared heat in the atmosphere, as one molecule of methane can trap infrared heat 20 times more than carbon dioxide. The levels of methane in the atmosphere has risen drastically in the past 150 years. The methane concentration in the atmosphere is 2 parts per 1000000, but its  ? at its highest level over a 160,000 year period.   Methane the 2nd most important greenhouse gas is mostly produced by the digestive system of cows. i  However the methane that cows produce is destroying the atmosphere which is causing the planet to heat up.
